Confessio: A Night of Hymns and Songs with The Gettys

Confessio: A Night of Hymns and Songs with The Gettys

We’re excited to once again be hosting Keith & Kristyn Getty along with their team for an evening of worship and praise on Friday, March 11, for their brand new hymns tour: Confessio: A diary of hymns and songs that underscore the Gettys’ Irish American journey. This collection is a ‘confessio’ in word and note of the musical and spiritual roots that continue to call us to the ancient paths. “For he grew up before him like a young plant, and like a root out of dry ground… Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows… and with his wounds we are healed” (Isaiah 53). The Gettys have written or arranged many of the songs we love singing together each Lord’s Day, and we are eager to sing along with them. Purchase your tickets and join us! Special pricing for all tickets is available through February 11.

Brothers, join other men in our upcoming Men’s Book Study. For six weeks starting Thursday, February 1, we will meet together at either 6:15 a.m. or 7:00 p.m. We will be reading and discussing the doctrine of sanctification using the book Deeper by Dane Ortlund. This book will help us see that we grow as Christians by going deeper into what we already know. True change comes from aligning what we do, say, and feel into alignment with who we already are in Christ. Please come and fellowship with other men as we consider this important topic.

Sign up and get your book and study guide ($10) in the South Lobby or sign up online. If you sign up online, be sure to stop by the table to get your book. The study continues through Thursday, March 7, and will meet in The Cave.

Email Chris Gerber with questions.

Men’s Bible Study

Men, our fall Bible study begins soon, and we’ll be looking into the book of I Samuel together on Thursdays at 6:15 a.m. or 7:00 p.m. We all serve someone or something. That someone or something will have our ultimate allegiance. After the period of the Judges, Israel wanted a king. They chose a king like the other nations, which led to disaster. Then God chose a king they needed. In our study of 1 Samuel we’ll see the reign of David and hints of a future king that we all need. The study begins on Thursday, September 28. Sign up and get your book ($5) this Sunday or next in the South Lobby or sign up online. If you sign up online, be sure to stop by the table to get your book. Join your brothers for encouraging times in the Word and in prayer. The study continues through Thursday, November 2, and will meet in The Cave.

Email Chris Gerber with questions.

Technology pervades our world and our lives. We can hardly live a day without engaging it in some form. While advances in this field benefit us tremendously, technology also brings great challenges and even danger. How should Christ’s followers navigate these difficulties? How should we, as men, lead ourselves and our families through this minefield? Join fellow brothers for our winter topical study through Andy Crouch’s book, The Tech-wise Family. Crouch provides biblical principles and warnings for us to consider as we engage with technology and as we shepherd our families who do so.

Our men’s study will meet in The Cave on Thursdays at 6:15 a.m. or 7:00 p.m. from February 2 through March 9. Sign up online, purchase your own book, and bring it with you to the first study. Books are available through Amazon, ChristianBook, Baker Book House, and other online retailers.

All That’s Good: Recovering the Lost Art of Discernment

HBC Ladies–you are invited to enjoy worship and fellowship together as we welcome our guest speaker, Hannah Anderson, for our 2019 retreat. Join us as we learn the lost art of discernment.

Looking out over the world today, it seems a far cry from God’s original declaration. Pain, conflict, and uncertainty dominate the headlines. Our daily lives are noisy and chaotic—filled with too much information and too little wisdom. No wonder we often find it easier to retreat into safe spaces, hunker down in likeminded tribes, and just do our best to survive life.

But what if God wants you to do more than simply survive? What if he wants you to thrive in this world, and be part of its redemption? What if you could rediscover the beauty and goodness God established in the beginning?

By learning the lost art of discernment, you can. Discernment is more than simply avoiding bad things; discernment actually frees you to navigate the world with confidence and joy by teaching you how to recognize and choose good things. When you learn discernment and develop a taste for all that’s good, you will encounter God in remarkable new ways. Come, discover the God who not only made all things, but who will also make all things good once again.

HANNAH R. ANDERSON lives in the haunting Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. She spends her days working beside her husband in rural ministry, caring for their three children, and scratching out odd moments to write. In those in-between moments, she contributes to a variety of Christian publications and is the author of Made for More (Moody, 2014), Humble Roots (Moody, 2016), and All That’s Good (Moody, 2018). You can connect with her at her blog and on Twitter @sometimesalight.
