Children 1st- 5th grades worship with their parents during the first part of the worship service, then they are dismissed for a children’s Bible lesson/sermon. The main Bible truth for the month is taught, along with singing, missionary spotlights, and scripture memory. We have applied a workshop model for the 11:00 hour (Sunday school hour), which we call Journey Workshops. Following their time in church, the children then attend one of seven workshops. While their age groups and their “shepherds” (group leaders) remain the same, they rotate to a different workshop each week. Our workshops include: drama, art, storytelling, puppets, media, Bible games, cooking/science, Bible geography, and missions. We study one big truth or Scripture passage a month by experiencing and developing it in these multi-dimensional workshops. Our goal is to help our children further deepen their knowledge and the truths of Scripture through these multi-dimensional learning environments.
One of our pastors, Abe Stratton, and our former Children's Ministry Director, Kerri Robinson, explain some of the details and opportunities in this video:
Preschool - Ages 3-5
Children in preschool attend classes with their age group during Sunday morning and evening worship services and the 11:00 hour. We begin to lay a biblical foundation during these crucial years of development. Our teachers communicate great truths about God through key Old and New Testament stories, and the children learn who God is and how He is at work in the lives of people throughout history. We also help the preschoolers memorize simple Bible verses.
1st - 5th Grade
All elementary-aged children begin the morning worshipping with their parents in the sanctuary. At one point in the service, they will be dismissed to Children's Church in the Cave.
Because exploring the works and ways of God is a life-long process, 1st through 5th graders are divided by grade into what we call Journey Workshops during the 11:00 hour in the Children’s Wing. These groups are designed to teach our children about who God is, His character, His work in their lives, and His Word. Our mission is to point the children to the good news of God’s love that sent His only Son, Jesus, to redeem us and make us His children!
